GREEN BY THE POUND - COTTAGE BUILD

John and Janet Robinson built their dream cottage in Southern Saskatchewan over the course of three days, assisted by many firms, trades people, family and friends. This exciting project echoed the spirit of co-operation and community that was experienced years ago in the "barn raising" approach to tackling a large homesteading endeavour.

"This has been a very exciting project to be involved with. All of the tradespeople involved were great - Many of them donated their time and even though they came from different companies, they worked together as a team. Not only did we get the cottage done in three days, we created a quality building and we had fun doing it!" said Robinson.

As well as an environmentally “green”cottage being constructed, meals, entertainment and accommodation were provided.  The famous motto “many hands make light work” was tested as helpers of various skill levels and experience worked together to build a beautiful cottage built into the side of a hill overlooking Buffalo Pound Lake. http://www.tpcs.gov.sk.ca/BuffaloPound  This three day event was also filmed for potential use as a pilot for a exciting television series where homeowners race against the clock to construct ecologically friendly unique homes in a tight timeframe.
